Default [Suggestion] Survivor Titles For Older Characters

I wrote this email to the GM's and they told me to post it on here, so here it is =P



Dear GM,

With the coming of Guild Wars: Factions, the Title system has been implemented.
Yet there is one title which isn't created in a fair way: the survivor title.
The survivor title is for people who get 140.000 Experience without dying, but
that counts only for their FIRST 140.000 Experience. I think there should be
some extra text to the "/deaths" command saying something like You have died
XXXXX times, You have gained XXXXX experience without dying.

If you gain 140.000 Experience without dying that way you should be getting the
Survivor title.

Otherwise no older characters can ever get the survivor title, which in my
opinion is quite unfair.

I'd like to see the /deaths must be 0 restriction removed as well. It is unfair you must create a new character and then get 140k xp to get the first tier. Characters created before this title was introduced will never have any shot at it, unless they never died beforehand. "xxxxxx xp since last dying" sounds good to me!

I'd say older chars before the title was implemented should be given that shot but say a one shot thing as in "From now on you have your chance, if you die, well that's it". The survivor title is meant to be survivor, meaning not dying.

I'd love survivor on my ranger, it would suit. There's noway I'd remake though just for that considering the amount of ectos and gold I've dropped on those perfect weapons which I customised.

Actually, I think it would be a lot more difficult this way, as opposed to first 140k xp. Think about it, no low level quests or enemies, powerleveling not as effective. I basically think that the "initial XP" is TOO simple to warrant a title.

I think this is a bad idea. The title is supposed to reward those who can take a new level 1 character, and get 140600, 587500 or 1337500 experience without dying at all. This is very difficult, you need to do some of the harder missions (Like Vizunah) to get to the big exp quests and elites on the other side.

If we allow older characters to get it, it will then be 'unfair' on newer characters, because they will have to fight through such hard missions, whereas someone who had a lvl 20 pre-factions will not need to.

What will the result of the unfairness complaint from this be? That each character can choose when their survivor streak starts? I hope it is fairly obvious that this is a silly idea.

(Even some of the earlier quests/missions are dangerous to a low-level character, eg Zen Daijun can kill a would-be survivor if they're not careful)

Having made multiple attempts and still trying on the survivor title it's really not that fun. Glad to leave it behind when I die.

Bringing extra defensive skills, quitting quests when the group aggro's wrong, avoiding PvP, depending on luck (i.e effect of lag),farming experience points, not being able to experiment on builds, blech.

Instead of aiming for survivor titles people should just 55hp farm for 1 million gold after they've finished the game.


I like the idea of some kind of reward for not dying though, and wouldn't mind some kind of bonus whenever you complete some task/quest without dying.

Sorry but there's plenty of holes in that argument. It is actually easier to get Survivor with a brand new character, especially Canthan.

Don't believe me? Make a new Canthan character. Do all the Shing Jea quests, you'll leave the Island about level 18. A few more side quests and you hit level 20 without ever doing any mainland missions (and thus get Survivor)

It's so laughably easy with a new character, I've done it twice now in around 8 hours. It can probably be done faster even. First time with an assassin of all things. The second time I did it a Ritualist and henchies even (got Masters on the Shing Jea missions easily)

Older characters will not have that advantage since they can't pick up an easy 140k xp just from beginner quests, and chances are probably already done a number of the missions. If anything it will be a bit harder, because probably already done missions and quests with your old character so no easy 1-3k rewards.

I do agree with the spirit of the request. This is unfair to older characters. But, the people going for this title haven't always been the best to take along in a group.

Resurrect skills were put in the game for a reason. You can recover from the death of somebody in the party. But if some survivor type logs off because things aren't going the way they want them to, it becomes a burden on the team. If people could restart this at any time, we'd have more people going for this title, and probably more party drop outs. This wouldn't be something I'd want to see happen.

That's a different debate though, one which I happen to agree with personally i.e. showing much less preference to taking Survivors in party. That's really nothing to do with allowing older characters to have a shot at it though, that's a debate about Survivor exisiting in the first place

Aside from the KOABD and the drunkard titles, this looks to be one of the more difficult titles to get. I'm doing ok so far with my one char but I would like a shot at it with my other characters since they've all been created before the implementation of titles.
